Second IDRBT Doctoral Colloquium

With the objective of exploring emerging areas of research in various domains of technology, the Institute conducted its Second IDRBT Doctoral Colloquium on December 20-21, 2012. The colloquium was inaugurated by Prof. Arun K Pujari, Department of Computer and Information Sciences, University of Hyderabad.

This year, 13 Ph. D. scholars from various reputed institutions like IITs, IIMs, IIITs, NITs and the University of South Florida, presented their research in the colloquium. The forum provided an opportunity for the research scholars to demonstrate and discuss their research ideas and get feedback from an eminent panel to improve their work.

Awards and Evaluation

An eminent jury chaired by Dr. R. B. Barman, Member, IDRBT Governing Council ; and consisting of Prof. B. Chakravarthy, Department of Computer Science, University of Hyderabad, Prof. B.L. Deekshatulu, Distinguished Fellow, IDRBT; and Shri N. Sitaram, Chairman, Inter-ministerial Working Group on Information Security, Govt. of India, evaluated the papers presentations on the parameters of Originality, Depth of work (Modelling, Design, Experimentation, Results), Technical Content (Models, Optimization, Technologies, Analysis), Presentation (Graphs, Explanations, Language, Clarity), Relevance, Applicability, Modernism and Correctness of Work (Correct, Complete, Gaps).

The Winners

  • Second Prize: Shri Maunendra Sankar Desarkar, Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, for his contribution entitled Algorithms for Personalized Recommender Systems.
  • Third Prize: Shri Anand Kumar, University of South Florida, for his contribution entitled Secured Processing of Analytical Queries in Large Datasets.
  • Third Prize: Shri Samarth Bharadwaj, Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi, for his contribution entitled On Periocular Biometrics.

The 2nd prize consisted of a cash reward of INR 50,000/- and a citation, whereas the 3rd prize shared by two participants, carried a cash reward of INR 35,000/- and a citation for each of the winners. No candidate won the first prize of INR 1 lakh.
